The COVID-19 numbers released by the Manitowoc County Health Department yesterday may seem a little confusing at first glance.
While there were only 12 new cases, the number of recovered cases remained stagnant. While that may seem rather odd, it makes sense when you recall that cases are only transferred into the recovered column after 30 days have passed.
And what was 30 days ago? The day after Christmas, when no new cases were added.
The pandemic totals now sit at 6,827 cases, 5,882 recoveries, and 885 active cases.
The number of people hospitalized with COVID in the northeast region of hospitals also grew slightly, up by four patients to 82 in total. Also, the percentage of ICU beds in use rose one percentage point to 75%.
No new deaths were reported, leaving that total at 60.
In Sheboygan County, there was one death reported between Friday and Monday, raising their death toll to 112. According to the Division of Public Health, this individual was between the ages of 70 and 79.
In some good news, however, only 62 new cases were added, while 85 patients were added to the recovered column. This brings their pandemic totals up to 12,348 cases, 11,640 recoveries, and 596 active cases.
