Briess Malting Ingredients is continuing a pattern of growth in downtown Manitowoc.
Ryan O’Toole, President, and Chief Executive Officer at Briess told SeehaferNews.com that they purchased the former Anheuser Busch facility in 2014 and brought it back on-line the very next year.
O’Toole explains they are “very pleased with how the project has proceeded, commissioning of the additional malting components and the addition of team members the past two-plus years to help with their growing production locally.”
He says there are approximately 55-employees at the site, currently., which is a significant growth of team members there from back when they purchased the facility when they had just 7 to 9 employees. O’Toole said, “it has grown and it’s great to support those individuals and then the community.”
O’Toole stated the company recently closed one of its’ plants in Waterloo, Wisconsin in a consolidation move. “I’m just looking over our total asset portfolio,” he explained. “Wisconsin had made the decision that it makes more sense from a footprint and transportation logistics angle to have just a single site in Manitowoc.”
The company CEO added the fact they’re accessible by truck, rail, and by water in Manitowoc gives them a lot of logistical options, compared to other sites that are limited in that regard.
Briess still maintains offices and a manufacturing plant in nearby Chilton and has customers in animal nutrition markets, in the food industry for cereal and cereal bars, and of course in the growing craft brewing market.
