
MONDAY
– Two men in their 20s suffered what has been termed serious injuries in a crash on I-41 over the weekend when a truck slammed into a barrier head-on by the Shawano Ave exit in the Village of Howard. . The 21-year old male driver was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol and is receiving medical treatment at an area hospital. The 21 and 22-year old male passengers received severe injuries and are also being treated at an area hospital.
– Last week we reported that a Two Rivers man was arrested on three counts of distributing methamphetamine. There is a small correction to make. Originally the U.S. Department of Justice reported that Door County Sheriff’s Office along with the Wisconsin DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation took care of the case, but they have corrected that information. The case was actually investigated by the Manitowoc County MEG unit with the assistance of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

– Eligible Wisconsin Association of FFA members can now apply for the Wisconsin FFA Foundation’s 2020-21 Post-Secondary Scholarships. The application can be found on the Wisconsin Ag Ed website (WisconsinAgEd.org) under “Participate” then “Scholarships and Grants”. All applications are to be postmarked by March 15, 2021, addressed to the Wisconsin FFA Foundation office.
TUESDAY
– The Manitowoc City Council has approved a term sheet to sell 1.646 acres of land in the River Point District (former CN Peninsula) to Allie Family Companies. According to Mayor Justin Nickels, a six-story apartment building, which will house 81 market-rate apartments, will be constructed on that land just northwest of the 10th Street Bridge. – The Manitowoc Board of Education has voted unanimously to place an operating referendum question on the April 6th Spring Election ballot. In a letter to Manitowoc Public School District families, Superintendent Mark Holzman explained the referendum will ask voters for approval for up to $4.3 million annually, for three years, to maintain existing K-thru-12 educational programming and opportunities along with funding capital and technology needs.
– Roncalli Catholic Schools has announced that the 37th Annual Roncalli Pierside Auction will return in April. The auction will be held online with a special virtual event and even more surprises than in previous years. More than 250 silent and premium auction items are expected to be included, with more details expected to be released in the coming weeks.
WEDNESDAY
-Three people have been sentenced in Manitowoc County in a variety of cases. Click on the links for the cases which include sexting with minors, a stabbing incident, and a high-speed chase.
– The Wisconsin National Guard has surpassed a milestone at their Sheboygan County COVID-19 test site. Over 1,000 samples have now been collected in the Aging and Disabilities Resource Center in Sheboygan Falls since the program was reinstated on December 11th. While the Guard is able to test 450 people per day at that location, they have not come anywhere near that since the peak of the pandemic in November.
– The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host a public meeting to discuss updating the Wisconsin Walleye Management Plan for Brown, Door, Kewaunee, Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties. The meeting will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, February 2nd, at 6:30 p.m.
– The Friends of Two Rivers Snowfest are preparing to host the first iteration of the celebration in over 30 years and are doing so in a tasty way. The group is hosting a booyah and chili feed on January 30th, at Lonz’s Tannery Club on Tannery Road. More information on this and any future updates can be found at TRSnowfest.org.
THURSDAY
– A 40-year-old Manitowoc woman is free on cash bail after she was taken into custody for alleged theft at Walmart Tuesday afternoon. Tabitha C. Meyer is charged with Misdemeanor Retail Theft and three counts of Felony Bail Jumping. Her initial appearance is scheduled for January 25th at 1:30 PM.
– U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will provide additional assistance through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). This update will expand eligibility for some agricultural producers and commodities as well as updating payments to accurately compensate some producers who already applied for the program. – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Manitowoc County has announced a few changes in the format of this year’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser. Typically the organization takes over a local bowling alley for a day, and teams compete for prizes, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they have decided to change the format. – Last year, Ascend Services Inc out of Manitowoc held an interesting fundraiser at Tapped on the Lakeshore called Throw with All Your Heart. FRIDAY
– Authorities in Sheboygan County are working with Alliant Energy to understand what caused Thursday’s accident that left one electrical worker dead and one injured. The report came in during the noon hour in Sheboygan about a possible electrical accident. Four workers had been trying to correct an outage. Alliant Energy reports Keith Menke died after being taken to a hospital for treatment. Bruce Biller was transferred to a burn unit in Milwaukee.

– After a year off due to COVID-19, Beech Bash is making its way back to Two Rivers this summer. The annual music and community party was last held in 2019 on the current location of The Wharf in Manitowoc, and the dates for the event this summer have been announced. According to a post of the Official Beech Bash page, the 10th Annual Beach Bash will take place at Neshotah Beach on June 25th and 26th.
