A Manitowoc man was arrested Monday afternoon after a short vehicle chase with police.
An officer in the Manitowoc Police Department noticed a speeding vehicle in the 1600 block of Washington Street and attempted to pull it over. The driver pulled into the Marathon Gas Station and appeared to be stopping, but instead took off out of the parking lot.
The officer followed the vehicle south on South 18th Street but lost sight of it near the intersection with Columbus Street. The officer was able to determine that the driver drove over the curb into Pulaski Park, where the driver struck a bench.
At that time, backup had arrived, and officers located three men walking near the Southfield Townhouses that matched the description, and when the officers approached the men began to flee on foot.
The 22-year-old driver was eventually caught, and arrested on charges of Fleeing an Officer, Felony Bail Jumping, and seven counts of Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
