While drug abuse continues to be a major problem in Manitowoc County, the Drug Court is continuing to work on reducing the problem.
We spoke with Jerry Mutchie, a treatment counselor with the Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Services, who explained what the Drug Court does.
“Our Drug Court is designed to reduce recidivism and substance abuse among non-violent abusing offenders,” he explained. “In short, we are trying to support them where they are at, to help them to be successful in recovery, and in turn life, and also reduce criminality and substance abuse in the community.”
The Drug Court has teamed up with the League of Women Voters, and the Manitowoc Public Library to host an interactive panel discussion at 6:00 this evening.
Mutchie explained to SeehaferNews.com that they will be going over what the Drug Court does, as well as, “What our numbers are, and the research that we have done. We’ve got about three years of solid research, and we are in our fourth year. We will be outlining some of the numbers of how many days in treatment vs how many days spent in custody, and what it would have averaged out to be if they had not come to Drug Court. The numbers are staggering, so I would encourage anybody who is interested in that to attend that Zoom session.”
The panel discussion will be aired live on the Library’s Facebook and YouTube pages and will include Judge Bob Dewane, a current program participant, a recent graduate, and a terminated program participant.
