– The Manitowoc County Recycling Center is now accepting Christmas trees. Manitowoc County residents and businesses may drop off their natural holiday trees at the Basswood Compost Site from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 8:00 am – noon. – The Manitowoc County Health Department has been informed by the State that it will be receiving an additional 200 doses of the Moderna vaccine this week and will be hosting additional COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics for Phase 1A eligible individuals this week.
– While there is no snow in the immediate forecast, Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley is reminding citizens that it is their responsibility to keep the sidewalk clear in front of their homes. In a newsletter to the city, he stated, Snow must be removed within 24 hours following the end of a precipitation event. If you own a corner lot, that responsibility extends to the gutter line at the end of any corner sidewalk ramps.”
– The founder of PDQ Manufacturing and The Automobile Gallery in Green Bay has passed away late last week. William “Red” Lewis was 78 years old. Red Lewis started with nothing and became a true American success story. Among his many triumphs, Red built PDQ Manufacturing into the world’s largest touchless car wash manufacturer with clients in more than 30 countries.
TUESDAY
– After a near 30-year career as a corporate executive in Manitowoc, the CEO of Lakeside Foods has decided it is time to retire. Joe Yanda, the current COO of Lakeside, will be assuming the role upon Glen Tellock’s departure, which will go into effect on June 1st.
– The Manitowoc Public Library is preparing to host an online panel discussion regarding the impact of the drug court. The virtual event is scheduled for Monday, January 18th, at 6:00 PM, and is entitled “Community Impact of Drug Court in Manitowoc County”. This online discussion will be livestreamed on both MPL’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/manitowoclibrary) and its YouTube channel.
– New Franken Firefighters were able to rescue four fishermen after they fell through the ice into the waters of Green Bay on Monday. The rescue crews were called at around 12:15 PM after they were informed that the ice had broken around the 4 four fishermen in the area around Point Comfort Road just north of Benderville on the east side of the bay. The men were estimated to be around 100 yards off the shore, and crews were able to row a boat out to them and bring the men back to shore. No injuries were reported.
-Roncalli Elementary and Middle Schools will be hosting Virtual Preview Nights in early February. The Elementary School will offer their event on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m., and Roncalli Middle School will hold its event on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m on the Roncalli Elementary School and Roncalli Middle School Facebook page.
WEDNESDAY
– A Manitowoc man has been indicted by a federal grand jury after he allegedly participated in crimes against underage children. 59-year-old Timothy J. Tetzlaff reportedly transported minors across state lines with the intent of engaging in criminal sexual activity and engaged in the production of child pornography.
– A Two Rivers man is facing federal charges after being found in possession of Methamphetamine. A federal grand jury indicted Adam L. Lambrecht on three charges after he allegedly distributed crystal meth on three occasions between August and September of last year. Each charge carries with it mandatory imprisonment of 5 years, and a max of 40 years, and up to $5 million in fines.
– Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu of Oostburg commented on the passing of the COVID-19 relief bill, saying it, “responds to the needs of frontline healthcare providers and gives our state’s economy the tools to safely re-open without the fear of frivolous lawsuits.” LeMahieu said that the Senate spoke with several service organizations from all parts of the political spectrum in order to pass a bill that “can deliver a win for our state as we work to govern responsibly during this time of turmoil.”
– Those who have wanted to give fishing a try, but didn’t want to pay for their first trip will have the perfect opportunity this weekend. This weekend is Free Fishing Weekend, where people are encouraged to ish almost anywhere in Wisconsin without a license or trout stamp. Before you go, review information about the early trout season and the trout regulations. If you see a season date listed for a specific body of water, you’re free to fish there, although some waters may be catch-and-release only.
THURSDAY

– A Manitowoc man was arrested early yesterday (January 13th) morning, after he and his step-dad got into a physical altercation. The mother, who witnessed the incident, told police that the son began throwing punches, so the father retaliated in kind. The son was arrested, and charged with Battery, with a Domestic Violence enhancer.
– The Two Rivers Police Department is asking for the public help in solving a burglary case from early last month. The incident occurred on December 7th, at an unnamed business on the south side of the city. Anyone with any information on who may have been involved are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 920-683-4466. You may be eligible for a reward of up to $500.
– The Manitowoc Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating the owner of a dog involved in a biting incident. The victim described it as a large dog with black and brown bindle coat, with no other identifying marks, tags or a collar. Anyone with any information on the canine or it’s owner is encouraged to contact the Manitowoc Police Department Shift Commander Line at 686-6551.

– We reported last week, Manitowoc’s version of Snow Fest was scheduled to take place tomorrow (January 16th), but that has changed. According to the Recreation Department for the City of Manitowoc, the event celebrating the winter season has been rescheduled for Saturday February 13th. – The Father Bill Zimmer Forum, held at Roncalli High School, 2000 Mirro Drive in Manitowoc, has announced the postponement of their spring 2021 presenters. Speakers Sister Natalie Binversie, Allan Jaeger and Father Dave Beaudry, who were scheduled to present in February, March and April, but will be rescheduled for the 2021-2022 series due to the pandemic. A new Zimmer Forum calendar will be announced later this summer.
