Jim Brey of Manitowoc is a longtime City Alderman and County Board Supervisor, but he’s also a longtime Los Angeles Rams fan.
With the playoff showdown with the Packers this afternoon at Lambeau Field, we contacted Brey and asked him how his NFL loyalty all began. He said he remembers watching a game at his grandmother’s house and it was the Rams. What appealed to him was their uniforms at the time and he just started following them when he was 7-years old.
They remain his favorite team. Brey spoke about the matchup featuring Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay’s high scoring offense against the Rams and their stubborn defense. He said that “Aaron Donald, who’s arguably one of the best defensive players in the NFL, is expected to play despite bruised ribs and cartilage and you have the top-rated defense in the Packers against the #1 rated offense. So, it should be interesting.”
Brey explains he’s a “1-A Packers fan” meaning he still likes the Pack, but if they square off, as they will today, he goes for his beloved Rams. As for if he gets some pushback from local Packer-backers about his allegiance to the west coast franchise, he said he “does get good-natured ribbing and stuff, but never threatening words from Packer fans. It’s great during some tough times in this country to at least relax for a few hours and enjoy some football,” he added.
Jim says he’ll be watching the big game this afternoon from his living room couch on a big screen TV. As for a prediction, Brey believes it’ll be decided by a field goal, 33-30 Rams.
