“As horrible and challenging 2020 was Manitowoc County showed up in a big way and we met and exceeded our fundraising goals.”
Lt. Jenny Moffit of the Salvation Army of Manitowoc County said that while giving out a huge “community thank you” to all who stepped up in 2020 to help out their less fortunate friends and neighbors.
“We have an incredibly generous community we live in,” she said, praising the Manitowoc Community. “Every time I ask they show up in big-surprising and wonderful ways I want to say Thank You to all of the Manitowoc County Community for helping us rescue Christmas this year.”
Despite the pandemic-The traditional kettles brought in $132,388.24, which is above the goal they set, which was $130,000.
“Most people felt safe and I respect those who didn’t,” Moffit said. “Those who didn’t showed their love and support by mailing checks or went to Shoreline Hometown Credit Union and purchased a season pass. Even with less volunteers at the kettles, we were still able to make nearly the same amount of money as last year which is truly incredible.”
Shoreline Hometown Credit Union sold and matched sales for the season pass pins and was able to raise more than $13,000.
In addition, 96 families were adopted and provided Christmas items, and 486 families were provided with toys through their Toys for Tots Toyshop. More than 11,000 toys were given to over 1300 children and over 50,000 grocery Items were handed out during the holidays.
Lt. Moffitt added, “We can’t begin to list off the many people, businesses, churches, and groups who have made our Christmas fundraising and program season a success.”
