
The tide has turned a bit in Manitowoc County.
Over the weekend, the Manitowoc County Health Department reported another surge in COVID-19 cases, which included 4 more deaths. The death toll now sits at 55 after nearly 2 weeks of it remaining stagnant at 51.
Three of these individuals were from Manitowoc, and the other was from a different municipality. Two of them were over the age of 86, and the other two landed in the 76-85 category and the under 75 categories. This leaves the pandemic totals at 5 deaths under the age of 65, 10 between 66 and 75, 17 between the ages of 76 and 85, and 23 over the age of 85.
Also, 161 new cases were reported, with 86 coming in on Friday, 38 on Saturday, and 37 on Sunday, while only 122 people recovered. The number of active cases rose to as high as 1,011 on Saturday but fell back to 1,005 on Sunday. A total of 6,461 people has now contracted the virus throughout the pandemic, while 5,401 people have recovered.
In a bit of good news, the number of people hospitalized for COVID in the 10 hospitals in the Northeast region dropped to 92, while the percentage of ICU beds in use fell to 76%.
As of Friday, Sheboygan County has seen 11,796 people contract the virus, and 10,799 people recover. This leaves 901 active cases and 96 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
