Manitowoc County took environmentalism seriously in 2020.
According to a news release from Tara Wachowski, the Administrative Assistant at the County Soil and Water Conservation Department, Manitowoc County signed 10 CREP agreements last calendar year. She said that equates to 8,660 ft. of streambanks, 33.6 acres of grass buffers, and 3.6 acres of tree buffers planted to reduce runoff and restore wildlife habitat.
To date, landowners participating in the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program have buffered 41 miles of streambank, developed 20 acres of wetland, planted 250 acres of trees and 382 acres of grass to provide a buffer along streams, lakes, and wetlands in Manitowoc County.
