The president of the Milwaukee Common Council says he would like to see the process of choosing a new police chief halted.
Cavalier Johnson is citing what he calls a “tumultuous year” for the city’s Fire and Police Commission. Johnson thinks Milwaukee should let acting Chief Jeffrey Norman “exercise his ability” while he has the job.
Norman assumed the position last month.
Johnson worries that the situation with former Police Chief Alfonso Morales will complicate things since a court ruled he shouldn’t have been demoted.
Commission chairman Nelson Solar says he will respond to Johnson’s proposal at the group’s next meeting on Thursday.
