Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig released information late this morning (Monday) about a fatal two-vehicle crash in the Town of Kossuth, last week.
Hartwig says his deputies & EMS personnel responded about 6:30 PM Wednesday night to the crash on Polifka Road, west of Popelar Road. The preliminary investigation reveals 57-year old Richard Dufek from rural Whitelaw was operating a utility tractor westbound on Polifka Road when he was struck from behind by a car driven by 60-year old Julie Zipperer, also from the Whitelaw area.
Dufek was ejected from the tractor and died at the scene from blunt force trauma. Zipperer sustained minor injuries.
Sheriff Hartwig said other agencies assisting his department were: Rockwood and Francis Creek Fire Departments, Manitowoc Fire and Rescue, Manitowoc County Highway Department, Joint Dispatch Center, the County Coroner’s office, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Hi-Way 42 Garage.
The crash remains under investigation.
