The first major winter storm has come and gone but it’s not too late to help your vehicle get you through our Lakeshore winter.
Jeremiah Novak owns Novak Service Center on the corner of 14th and Washington in Manitowoc and he tells us, “Winterizing a vehicle has drastically changed with the advent of technology. Antifreeze now lasts a good one hundred thousand miles. We basically perform an oil change and run a thorough diagnostic test plus check the strength of the battery and coolant.”
Novak says you should check tire pressure often. “All vehicles manufactured after 2007 are required to have a working tire pressure monitor system. Checking tire pressure is paramount. Putting air in a low tire could save you lots of money in having to buy a new tire or a tow.”
An overlooked item on one’s checklist—keeping the interior clean.
“It’s winter and salt and stuff will get inside. Cleaning the interior helps prevent potential corrosion if salt sits on some sort of raw metal for a lengthy period of time.”
The local car repair expert recommends you warm up your vehicle at least 10 minutes before operating it and that if you notice anything out of the ordinary stop or call your local repair shop because “it’s better to be safe than sorry.”
