Some major business news to report this morning: The SS Badger car ferry has been sold to an Ohio Shipping Company.
According to a published report in the Mason County Press, Interlake Holding Company purchased the Lake Michigan Carferry Company & Pere Marquette Shipping Company.
Mark Barker, President of Interlake Holding, stated there are no major changes for the operation of the 410-foot long Badger, which has been owned by LMC since 1992 and operates between Ludington & Manitowoc from May to October. Barker added, “This is an exciting day for us and we are thrilled to be welcoming new employees into our Interlake family, new vessel lines for our Great Lakes operations, and new customers & cargoes Into our portfolio of business.”
He also indicated they are a family business, just like the owners of LMC, Bob Manglitz and Don Clingan, and they intend to build upon what they’ve done and learn the operation.
The sale marks the fourth time the Badger has changed ownership since it was launched in 1952.
