Bars and restaurants have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic due to fewer people going out, but a De Pere bar is getting some help from an unexpected source.
Barstool Sports, a national media company best known for being rather brash and controversial, is giving money to small businesses across the country, including The Abbey Bay in De Pere.
Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports said that he decided to make these donations because he knows what it’s like to have a small business. He said that if the pandemic had hit 10 years ago, he would have lost his business, which he had at the time worked 10 years toward building.
The Abbey Bay was one of the first set of businesses that received financial support and is one of 40 across the country to receive help.
