Madison police stopped people from entering a neighborhood near Henry Vilas Park Monday evening while a “suspicious substance” found inside a vehicle was investigated.
The Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene.
People living nearby were asked to leave their homes or shelter in place. Two buses were brought in to help with the evacuation, but most decided to stay home or leave on their own.
An inspection determined there were no dangerous materials inside the vehicle.
Police were originally called at about 1:30 p-m and the all-clear was given around six-and-a-half hours later.
