Second District Alderman Scott McMeans will not run for another two-year term on the Manitowoc Common Council.
The long-time incumbent has filed a notice of non-candidacy with the City Clerk’s Office for the Spring General Election.
In a statement, McMeans says “I have made a long and difficult decision to file a notice of non-candidacy for the April of 2021 City of Manitowoc Aldermanic Election. I have been blessed to be supported by this community and my District Two constituents over the past twelve years. I would love to continue serving but I have reflected on other community involvement opportunities and personal matters that will require more of my time looking ahead. I have faith that our future City Council Representatives will continue moving our City forward in the best interest of those living and visiting Manitowoc.”
Meanwhile, Chad P. Beeman has filed nomination papers to replace McMeans in District Two.
Districts 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10, along with the Mayor’s seat, are all contested on the April Sixth Ballot.
Those interested in running must turn in nomination papers to the City Clerk’s Office by end of business on January 5th. Any questions or concerns can be addressed by stopping by City Hall or calling 686-6950 during regular business hours.
