It would appear that there are fewer people driving while intoxicated on Wisconsin roads.
According to a study by a Wisconsin Legislative Bureau, the number of drunk driving arrests dropped by 18,000 between 2004 and 2018, while alcohol-related crashes declined during the same time frame. That is the case nationwide as well.
It is estimated that alcohol-related crashes cost Wisconsin residents over $400 million in 2015 alone, between the paying of police, and clean up crews, and other state and local expenses involved.
While there is no one single reason for the decline, it is believed that policy changes may have been a contributing factor in the decrease in cases.
