
MONDAY
-The COVID-19 numbers may be trending in the right direction, but that doesn’t mean we are out of the woods yet. Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack says that there is reason to be hopeful, however, ““As we look at all of these numbers trending down, we need to remember that numbers go down, and as we have seen in the past numbers can come up. We still want people to remain vigilant especially going into this holiday season.”
– A Sheboygan man is facing charges after he allegedly smashed up another man’s truck with a baseball bat over the weekend. Reports indicate that the suspect was in an argument with the mother of his child and became even more angry when another man showed up. He took out his anger on the man’s truck with a baseball bat and fled the scene in his car. While fleeing, the suspect reportedly hit the other man with his car, but the man was not seriously injured.
– A man known throughout De Pere and Green Bay for his award winning Bakery shop has passed away. Michael Vande Walle, better known as Uncle Mike, lost his battle with COVID-19 over the weekend at the age of 63. The news was released on the Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe Facebook page. In the post, Uncle Mike’s wife quipped that “God must have wanted Kringle for Christmas.”
– While a release date has not yet been decided on, the Kewaunee High School Music Department is planning a virtual performance. The members of the High School Band are working with Director Kelton Jennings on their parts and are recording them individually. Jennings will then edit the recordings together to create a collage in the style of a music video.
TUESDAY
– A man has been arrested by the Manitowoc Police Department after they learned that he had sexually assaulted a young girl multiple times. The victim told medical personnel that 61-year-old Kevin J. Kuik had sexually assaulted the child between 15 and 20 times over the last 5 years in both Manitowoc and Green Bay.
– An ATM at a bank in Ashwaubenon was burglarized over the weekend. Authorities say that the crime occurred at the Chase Bank on Pilgrim Way at around 4:30 Sunday morning. The suspects reportedly had stolen a vehicle earlier in the night and backed it up to the unit. Officials do not believe the public is in any danger at this time.
– There has been a massive recall of lean Cuisine frozen meals. The Nestle Corporation, who produces the meals, has announced that certain meals containing baked chicken have been recalled due to a possible plastic contamination. The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service says the contamination could be a piece of the conveyor belt which may have broken into the potatoes.
– Manitowoc’s Burger Boat Company, one of the oldest and most respected yacht builders in the world, has named Jason Conant as its 2020 Associate of the Year. The award celebrates his dedication to continuous improvement of his skills in service to Burger’s clients, as well as the leadership he has shown throughout the year.
WEDNESDAY
– A trail for one of the four men who allegedly shot and killed an 18-year-old Green Bay Preble High School Student has been postponed. Jared Williquette was scheduled to be in court on January 11th, but since he changed lawyers, that date has been moved to May 3rd.
-Bail has been set at $5,000 cash for a Green Bay man accused of sexually assaulting a child multiple times over the past 5 years. Kevin J. Kuik remains in the Manitowoc County Jail, with his initial appearance scheduled for December 28th.
– If you have driven down 8th Street in Manitowoc over the past month, you likely have seen a very exited man ringing a bell next to a red shack at the corner of South 8th and Franklin Street. For the few people who do not know who that is, he is known as Mr. Manitowoc, Tom Drill. We spoke with Drill earlier this week, and you can read all about him by clicking here.
– Organizers of the 13th annual Festival Foods Turkey Trot hoped to hit a new milestone this year and surpass $3 million in total event proceeds. Results are in and the event blew past that goal! The Festival Foods Turkey Trot has raised $3.28 million for charity since it began in 2008, with $360,000 coming with this year’s Home Edition.
THURSDAY
– The Manitowoc Public School District has announced that they have approved the bringing of the second phase of their reopening plan. The plan was unanimously approved at their meeting yesterday. On top of the expansion of the first phase, the MPSD is also asking parents to complete a survey, which will allow them to voice their learning preference for when the new grating criteria allows for a return to a blended model.
– ZIPS Car Wash announced yesterday the acquisition of the express car wash locations formerly owned by Magic Car Wash of eastern Wisconsin. This acquisition takes ZIPS into their 19th state with 195 car wash locations. The acquisition includes the Magic Car Wash locations in Sheboygan, and Manitowoc among others.
– Officials at Manitowoc’s Premium Laminations…at 4110 Clipper Drive, have been quite busy this year, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, part-owner Mike Garceau tells SeehaferNews.com they’re in the process of doubling their capacity by next Spring. He told us they have 12-workers on the payroll now, and with the expansion they’ll probably add 6-to-8 employees by late Spring.
– The newest industrial company in Manitowoc has solidified their place in the city, as they made a generous donation to Holy Family Memorial. Alliance Laundry Systems gifted the hospital a commercial Speed Queen washer-extractor and a UniMac tumble dryer.
