A local law enforcement official admits it’s tough at times to keep up the good fight against the influx of illegal drugs and what they do to “ruin the lives of a lot of people.”
Lieutenant Dave Remiker of the Manitowoc County Metro Drug Unit says the Drug Court is just one of many entities that have helped swing the curve in a positive direction.
“I’ve been so proud of our community and the recovery community that we have established here through the Drug Court-CORE-Horizon (a drug treatment facility) and more. I’m so proud of the effort of the Recovery Committee has put in and that’s a huge part of this.”
Remiker says he and his group of dedicated investigators have a “vested interest” in the people they take into custody as they transform into “productive people of society.”
“To hear some of the people say that they are going to be sober for the very first time on Christmas is a phenomenal-heartwarming story. This motivates all of us in the Drug Unit everyday that we’re part of the process in getting these people pointed in the right direction.”
Remiker emphasizes that they couldn’t do what they do without the love and support of family and friends adding “without that support we would never be able to do what’s tequired to get the job done. They are just as big a part in our success as anyone.”
