Less than two minutes into the second half it became obvious Marquette wasn’t going to take down another top-ranked opponent.
Villanova won its sixth straight game while leading the entire second half at the Fiserv Forum Wednesday 85-68.
The Golden Eagles (5-and-5, 1-and-3 Big East) had upset ranked teams like Wisconsin and Creighton earlier this season, but the loss to the Wildcats was the team’s third in-a-row.
Villanova led by as much as 23 points in the easy win.
Jamal Cain led the Golden Eagles with 15 points, while D-J Carton and Theo John each had 10. Marquette made 17 turnovers and missed more than half of its free-throw attempts.
The Eagles take a week-and-a-half off, then play at Georgetown on January 2nd.
