While Northeast Wisconsin has seen a rather mild winter so far, chances are mother nature will change her tune at some point and bring with that sheets of ice and snow. Typically, on the day the first major snowfall of the year occurs, many people seem to forget how to drive in those conditions.
Before you even put your car in drive, you should always make sure all the ice is off your windshield to ensure proper visibility. Also, make sure the snow is off the hood, and roof of your vehicle, that way it will not fly up and blind you or the person behind you.
When you do eventually hit the road slow down, and give yourself plenty of space to stop. It is also suggested that you have an emergency kit in your car and that your fluids are all filled to the proper levels.
If you find yourself unable to see, the safest thing to do is to pull off the road, and park in a safe space until conditions improve.
