Ascend Services, formerly known as the Holiday House, have been helping people with exceptional abilities since 1957, and recently announced that they are helping even more people.
Deana Genske, the Executive Director of Ascend, says that they have expanded their services to include children. “We’re able to offer services pretty much 4 and up, as long as it is in their home situation,” she explained. “If they wish to have center-based services they need to be over the age of 7, otherwise we would have to go for a daycare license.” Genske explained that this expansion has been a long time coming. “When we went through our rebranding three years ago, it was always in my vision to include not only a wide menu of services to the current people serve, but I wanted to expand our population of who we serve,” she told SeehaferNews.com. “So we really were trying to get in even with high school and beyond, so that we could start that relationship at an earlier age and help them with their career goals.”
The expansion is also important to the parents and guardians of the people they serve. “A lot of the parents out there are seeking some respite,” Genske explained. “They have been home for the last nine months with their loved ones and they just need a break.” Taking care of people with exceptional abilities can be rather taxing emotionally, and any alleviation of that stress can be a huge help to those guardians and parents.
