A building that formerly housed Malcolm’s Bar and Restaurant on Manitowoc’s near northside is in the process of being torn down.
Manitowoc Community Development Director, Adam Tegen said the structure at 901 Chicago Street is being removed under the City’s blight elimination program.
Tegen explained there were complaints received about the property along with city observations that led to the issuance of a raze order.
The property owner did not take down the building, so the city will hire a contractor to complete the work. The cost of demolition is placed as an assessment of the taxes for the parcel of land.
Tegen said the property will remain privately-owned unless the property owner defaults on taxes.
