“Health professionals have been working for more than a decade to develop a vaccine to combat a long-anticipated pandemic causing coronavirus.” Those words come from Manitowoc County Health Officer Stephanie Lambert.
“This means they were ready for SARS COVID-2, the virus that causes COVID 19. This plus unprecedented resources led to the development of the fastest working vaccine the world has ever seen. I must stress that it was the development of the vaccines that have been expedited, not the safety trials. These have been held to the highest standards.”
Lambert says 95 percent of the more than 70,000 people that have participated in these vaccine trials have developed immunity to COVID-19.
“Common complaints included pain at the injection site-headache-muscle pain-chills and fever. These are normal responses and they show that your body is working. Think of it like muscle soreness after a workout. One builds an immune response the other builds muscle-but both leave you better prepared the next time you’re challenged.”
The local healthcare professional adds “The Health Department has been working diligently to ensure that the people of Manitowoc County will have access to COVID-19 vaccinations as soon as possible. We stand prepared to serve you and usher in the end of this difficult and grief-filled year.”
