***UPDATE 11:45 AM 12/17/2020***
The claim by the protest organizer that Superintendent Mark Holzman has not been responding to emails or calls has been disputed by Mr. Holzman. He has been very forthcoming with information for the School District in the past.
***Original Story***
A group of local parents of students in the Manitowoc Public School District have planned a protest for this weekend.
One of the organizers of the protest told SeehaferNews.com that they are “fed up and want their kids back in school by Second Semester.” She cited the fact that all of the other surrounding schools and two other Manitowoc High Schools have been open since the beginning of the year, and they feel like the time has come to re-open the schools in the MPSD.
She also claimed that Superintendent Mark Holzman has not been responding to emails or phone calls from parents on the subject.
The protest will take place outside the library in downtown Manitowoc on Saturday from noon to 2:00 PM.
We reached out to the Superintendent who refused to comment on the protest itself but did say that the Board of Education has been working on ways to get students back into schools.
He also pointed to the fact that they have implemented Phase 1 of their return to school plan, and are looking forward to moving on to Phase 2.
Holzman has stated in the past that there is no doubt that in-person learning is the best option, but the Board wants to make sure that all students, teachers, and staff remain safe in the process.
