The Green Bay Police Department will be receiving body cameras after months of discussion and research.
The City Council approved the purchase of the cameras during their meeting last night, and it is estimated that these cameras will be in use by March.
It was decided that the council would purchase the equipment from Axon, which includes 190 body cameras, updated tasers, squad cameras, and data storage.
The purchase was not cheap, however, as the contract was reported to be around $2.7 million.
The Green Bay Packers organization is helping to offset the cost to the city with a $757,000 donation, which covers the first year of the 5 year contract.
The City Council is still looking to borrow money to cover the costs of the remaining 4 years.
