The Milwaukee Brewers have signed a power-hitting first baseman for their Triple-A affiliate in a minor league deal announced Tuesday.
Dustin Peterson will have a chance to win the job with the major league club, but this isn’t expected to fix that problem for the Brewers.
The 26-year-old Peterson is leading the Mexican Winter League in home runs this season.
He was a second-round pick of the San Diego Padres in 2013 but has hit only .217 in his brief appearances at the major league level.
Peterson isn’t on the team’s 40-man roster, but he is expected to receive an invitation to the big league team’s spring training site in Arizona.
