Two State Representatives from the Lakeshore area have been threatened with fines if they continue to put a Christmas Tree in the rotunda of the Capitol.
Representative Paul Tittl of Manitowoc went to Facebook, where he hosted a live video explaining that the State Department of Justice has taken down his and Representative Shea Sortwell’s Christmas tree they put up at the Capitol.
He went onto say that “They actually sent a detective over from the Department of Justice to Shae Sortwell’s Office this morning and said that if we continue, they could fine us up to $200 a day. We are contemplating taking the fine and starting a GoFundMe page, and if they don’t fine us donating the funds to the Salvation Army or the Veterans Home in King Wisconsin.”
Tittl said they are expending all options to keep the 100-year tradition alive.
“It’s getting silly,” Tittl said bluntly. “It’s not expending any resources, it’s not a real tree so it doesn’t require water, there’s no electricity on it, nothing. They are expending more resources now to take it down than to just leave it alone.”
During his Facebook video, Tittl called on the public to voice their support by calling Governor Tony Evers’ office. That number is 608-266-1212.
Tittl did clarify that all the ornaments that were on the tree were returned to himself and Sortwell.
