A 53-year-old De Pere man was arrested on his 7th OWI offense late last week.
State Troopers responded to a single-vehicle accident at around 10:30 PM last Thursday on Interstate 41 near County Road U in Outagamie County. Subsequent investigation revealed the driver, Joseph L. Smits, was operating while under the influence.
A legal blood draw was conducted at an area hospital and Smits was booked into the Outagamie County Jail.
This was Smits’ 7th OWI offense, and he was also cited for an improper right turn, failure to fasten his seatbelt, and operating without insurance.
