
MONDAY
– The Manitowoc Fire & Rescue Department responded early this morning to a fire-call to Jagemann Plating Company. The initial call came in just before 3:30 AM and the fire had been brought under control by 4:30 AM. A fire department spokesperson said that everybody was out of the building upon their arrival.
– A 21-year old Two Rivers man was transported to the Manitowoc County Jail last night after he tried to flee police officers. An officer from the TRPD attempted to stop a vehicle traveling southbound on Mishicot Road for a traffic violation shortly after 6:30 PM. A brief pursuit ensued with speeds reaching approximately 60 mph until the motorist turned onto an access road for a retention pond in the 2900 block of Forest Avenue. The driver fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later without incident.
– An unidentified man was arrested over the weekend after he drove into the Fox River in Green Bay. The vehicle was removed from the river, and the male driver was arrested on an OWI charge.
– According to reports, LTC’s nursing students are passing the National Council Licensure Examination this year at a rate of 98% through November. Once students pass this exam, they are able to identify themselves as registered nurses. While that is a phenomenal rate, it is nothing new for the area tech school. Last year, they boasted a 100% pass rate, and in 2018 98% passed on their first attempt.
TUESDAY
-17-year-old Damian Hauschultz was in Manitowoc County Court yesterday, where it was determined that statements, he made to the Police will be use in court. The defense claims that Damian had not been read his Miranda Rights before giving them, but Judge Dietz said that he was not in custody at the time, therefore they were voluntary. A trial date is expected to be scheduled during a December 17th hearing.
– Holy Family Memorial is preparing to continue their over 30-year tradition of lighting their Love Light Tree this Wednesday. Under normal circumstances, members of the community would be welcome to attend the lighting in person, but according to Monica Nicheter from HFM, “Because of Safer at Home and social distancing, we are not having a celebration where people can come to the hospital and celebrate the lighting of the tree in person.” They will be hosting a video version on their Facebook page.
– Ascend Services out of Manitowoc has announced that has begun offering services to children with disabilities. The expansion of services came about as a response to the large number of children with disabilities staying at home due to the pandemic. Mentors will work with youth to positively engage them in the community, emphasizing the goal of improving social, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
– The City of Manitowoc now has a new way for its citizens to learn about what is happening in the City. The City of Manitowoc phone app is now available on Google Play and in the Apple App store. To download the app, go into the app store on your phone, and search City of Manitowoc.
WEDNESDAY
– It was quite the sight on Green Bay’s west side yesterday morning, as water spewed from a water main. According to city officials, a contactor was working on replacing a traffic light at the intersection of West Mason and 12th Streets, when the accidentally struck a water main. Water erupted from the pipe, and flooded the roadway for around 30 minutes, until crews could fix the issue.
-The Manitowoc Public School District Board of Education met last night, and one of the big topics of discussion was a return to in-person learning. Phase One of their return to school plan was approved, and some students will be allowed back. This phase will only affect students with Individualized Education Programs, or IEP’s and other students on a case by case basis.
– Community First Credit Union was honored with this year’s Corporate Citizenship Award in the large business category from the Fox Cities Chamber. The award recognizes organizations who have made a significant difference in the health and well-being of the Fox Cities through their giving and community involvement.
– You may have seen the bell ringers out in full force in an attempt to raise money for the Salvation Army, but several local and area banking institutions are taking it one step further. On Wednesday December 16th, seven financial institutions are battling it out to see who can raise the most money in a singe day. The participating banks and credit unions volunteer their time for one day as bell ringers. The financial who has the most funds at the end of the day, gets the winning trophy.
THURSDAY
– Two of the people who were arrested in Green Bay during the protests back in June, are now suing the city. The lawsuit, brought forth by Gerardo Rodriguez of Allouez and Manali Olesky of Green Bay, alleges that the curfew was unconstitutional because it targeted only protesters and ignored the other people that were out and about those evenings.
– The jolly man himself has taken time out of his busy schedule to visit the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center in Newton. This Saturday, Santa will be on hand for a meet and greet from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
-The Manitowoc County HEALTH Department announced that the National Guard is coming back to the Expo Grounds to continue their COVID-19 testing mission. Their first day back is December 15th, and they will return every other Tuesday through March 9th.

FRIDAY
– A 33-year-old Green Bay man is facing charges after he was found to be in possession of child pornography. Hector Rodriguez was arrested Wednesday morning, at his parent’s home on Day Street. A search of his phone uncovered a folder labeled “Young”, which contained ten videos of girls in sexual poses. The girls ranged in age from 12-years-old to under the age of 8.
– A 20-year old Sturgeon Bay man is hospitalized with non-life-threatening wounds and a 41-year-old Illinois male is in the Door County Jail after a stabbing incident early Thursday morning. The 20-year old male was transported to Door County Medical Center for treatment, while criminal charges against the suspect are pending a review of the case by the Door County District Attorney’s office. The 41-year old man was still at the scene when officers arrived and was taken into custody without incident.
– There are several new and returning faces who have or will soon be taking over key positions within Manitowoc County. Greg Groutegut took over as Highway Commissioner for the exiting Marc Holsen, Mary Halada will be leaving the Health Department this month, and will be replaced by Stephanie Lambert, and J.J. Gutman will assume the Finance Director position as Todd Reckelberg is set to retire January 15th.
– One of the most dominant swimmers in Manitowoc Lincoln High School history will be diving into classes and the pool in the Upper Peninsula. Mia Strazny, alongside friends, family, and her current and past swimming coaches, signed a letter of intent to attend college at Northern Michigan University in Marquette Michigan.
