As holiday lights and candles are “a glow,” it’s important to remember and practice fire safety.
Manitowoc Fire Chief Todd Blaser shares some tips to keep your home safe this season.
“Make sure candles are kept from decorations. Before putting up lights please read the UL on them (to determine whether they’re for indoor or outdoor use or both). Look for loose bulbs, bad cords, and don’t connect too many series of light strings together.”
Blaser says if your burning candles, “I can’t stress enough to keep them at least 122 inches away from any flammable object and make sure all candles are properly extinguished before leaving your home.”
The top three days of the year for candle induced house fires are Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.
