One of the most dominant swimmers in Manitowoc Lincoln High School history will be diving into classes and the pool in the Upper Peninsula.
Mia Strazny, alongside friends, family, and her current and past swimming coaches, signed a letter of intent to attend college at Northern Michigan University in Marquette Michigan.
Mia told SeehaferNews.com she chose NMU, “Not only the beauty of the atmosphere (everybody knows that Marquette is a beautiful place), but I thought that the people there were beautiful people. Everybody is so down to earth and kind there.”

Mia said her coaches throughout the years have helped her become great not only in the pool but also between the ears. “My coaches have developed me to have this compassion for other people, and a determination to succeed,” she said. “Without developing this sense of team, and caring about other people, you really can’t succeed in any sport.”
Her coach at Lincoln High School, Paige Cobarrubias, explained that she has been coaching Mia for quite some time. “The first year that I coached her was at the YMCA, I believe back in 2010,” Paige said. “Then after one or two years here, I left to do Lincoln exclusively.”

Strazny broke 5 school records throughout her high school career and even broke her own record once. One of those records Mia was a part of breaking actually belonged to Cobarrubias.
“The first record that they broke was my medley relay record, which was super exciting,” she stated. “It makes it super special to see these girls break that stuff, and I got to be a part…of the team that broke that record. It’s super exciting.”
Mia currently holds the records for the fastest time in the 100 Butterfly, 200 Medley Relay (alongside Kalina Kinzel, Rayna Georgenson, and Morgan Meyer), 100 Backstroke, the 400 Freestyle relay (alongside the same three teammates), and the 200 Freestyle (alongside Frances and Morgan Meyer, and Georgenson,).
Mia also received All-Conference Honorable Mentions in 2017,2018 and 2019, all for the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke events.
Mia said she will be studying Pre-Med at NMU, but has not declared a major as of yet.
