Holy Family Memorial is preparing to continue their over 30-year tradition of lighting their Love Light Tree this Wednesday.
Under normal circumstances, members of the community would be welcome to attend the lighting in person, but according to Monica Nicheter from HFM, that is not the case this year. She told SeehaferNews.com, “Because of Safer at Home and social distancing, we are not having a celebration where people can come to the hospital and celebrate the lighting of the tree in person.”
Nicheter explained that you can still watch the ceremony virtually. She explained that means, “You will be needing a computer, and you will need to log on to the HFM Facebook Page, where you could watch (just like you would watch a Christmas celebration on your television, but you would be watching on your computer) the information, the prayer, the honoring of the loved ones, honoring our veterans, and the flipping of the switch, illuminating the beautiful Love Light Tree.”
The ceremony will begin at 5:00 PM on Wednesday. This ceremony has it’s roots back in 1986, when HFM was known as Memorial Hospital. “The Woman’s Auxiliary, led by Mary Manis, did the Love Light Tree,” Niechter said. “It was on December 7th to commemorate the attack on Pearl Harbor. Historically it has been a beautiful way to remember our veterans, both those who have served and perhaps passed, and to honor those who are currently in the military.”
However over the years, the Love Light Tree has grown to include all loved ones.
The tree will still be in the atrium at their Western Avenue location.
