
MONDAY
– Another person has died due to COVID-19 in Manitowoc County over the weekend. According to the reports from the Manitowoc County Health Department, this individual was a resident of the City of Manitowoc and was between 76 and 85-years-old. This brings the death toll up to 37 since the start of the pandemic.
– The City of Two Rivers has delayed the start of their winter parking ban. In a news release, City Manager Greg Buckley cited the lack of snow accumulation and the fact that there is no snow in the immediate forecast for the delay. Wisconsin is known for our quickly changing weather, so the delay could be lifted just as quickly. Buckley advised that residents keep an eye on the Two Rivers City Hall and Police Department Facebook pages, as well as the City website, Two-Rivers.org, for updates.
– A Green Bay Police Officer and another individual both required medical treatment at a hospital after they were involved in a crash Sunday morning. The incident occurred at the intersection of Bellevue and Mason Street at around 5:00 AM. Details of the incident have not been released, but we do know that both the officer involved and the other individual were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
– An individual has died after a single-vehicle crash in Outagamie County over the weekend. The incident occurred on northbound 441 near Appleton’s Calumet Avenue at around 8:00 AM on Sunday. Details have not yet been released, including the driver’s name and age, however, we do know that the deceased was the only occupant of the vehicle when it crashed.
TUESDAY
– Three people die over the Thanksgiving weekend in two separate crashes in Manitowoc County. Sheriff Dan Hartwig says that 21-year-old Patrick E. Knapp and a 14-year-old boy, both from De Pere died Wednesday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash in the Town of Schleswig. Also, 22-year-old Jordan J. Leslie of Sheboygan died as the result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident early Thanksgiving morning in the Town of Centerville.
– Bail is set at $1000 for a 22-year-old Manitowoc man facing multiple charges after allegedly pointing a gun at another man over the weekend. Dominique M. Elliot is charged with suspicion ff recklessly endangering safety, disorderly conduct while armed, obstructing, and felony bail jumping.
– Sheboygan Mayor Mike Vandersteen has announced that he will be seeking his third term in office. In his announcement, Vandersteen said that he looks to keep his plan on track to strengthen neighborhoods increase recycling, and to continue to resurface the roadways in his city. Several other individuals have expressed interest in vying for the highest office in the city, but none have made official announcements as of yet.
– Despite the ongoing pandemic, Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry (WAF) has seen business grow and expand throughout 2020. The result is that the company is now looking to hire up to 25 additional employees for its Manitowoc facility. Candidates can apply online at wafco.com/careers.
WEDNESDAY
-A home on the east side of Appleton is no longer livable following a fire that originated in the kitchen. The Appleton Fire Department was called to the home on Linden Lane at around 11:45 Tuesday morning. All occupants were able to escape without any injuries, however, the home suffered severe fire, smoke, and water damage, estimated to be around $100,000 worth.
– The lone woman on the Manitowoc City Council will not seek a full two-year term in the spring. Alderperson Courtney Hansen representing District Ten filed notification of non-candidacy Tuesday for the April sixth election. Persons interested in running for District Ten must file nomination papers no later than January fifth.
– The Two Rivers City Council met Monday night and gave final approval for the 2021 City Budget. During his weekly Two Rivers City Update Tuesday morning, City Manager Greg Buckley explained that the budget is about a $35 million spending plan.
– Shipbuilders Credit Union has announced a few of additions to their staff. The Manitowoc based banking establishment added Katrina Krupski to their team as the Director of Human Resources, Billie Jo Maedke has been named Branch Manager for the SCU Mishicot location, and John Zelewske has been promoted to the position of Member Service Representative for the Rapids Road branch.
THURSDAY
– SeehaferNews.com, alongside the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Manitowoc County, the Manitowoc Two Rivers YMCA, and several local banking institutions, teamed up on Giving Tuesday for the United as One Fundraiser. The goal of this fundraiser was $40,000 with $20,000 of that as a match from the various banks and credit unions. As of their latest report, the fundraiser collected more than $37,000.
-Manitowoc Count is looking to hire individuals who are certified to administer vaccines. This is so once the COVID-19 vaccines become available, they can be distributed quickly and efficiently. – A pair of State Representatives from the Lakeshore area brought a little Christmas cheer to the Capitol. Representatives Paul Tittl and Shae Sortwell set up a Christmas Tree in the rotunda in defiance of a statement from Governor Tony Evers who announced about a month ago that there would not be one. – A 15-year-old Sheboygan boy was arrested late last month following a shooting incident. The incident occurred on November 28th and resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy. The 15-year-old boy was subsequently arrested and turned over to juvenile authorities for Homicide by Negligent Use of a Dangerous Weapon.
FRIDAY
-A fire broke out in a Manitowoc apartment building early Friday morning in the 700 block of Franklin Street. According to Fire Chief Todd Blaser, all occupants were able to escape without any injuries. The building is located next to the former Kathy’s Stage Door Pub, and the Capitol Civic Center.
– There is a new face in charge of the finances in the City of Manitowoc. Shawn Alfred was named as the replacement of Steve Corbeille on Monday, during the City Council Meeting. Corbeille will work with Alfred through the end of the year, and the reigns will be passed on January 1st when Corbeille officially retires.
– Two more people have been arrested in connection to a car jacking case from early last month. The U.S. Marshalls arrested a 17-year-old male and a 16-year-old male in Milwaukee and turned them over to the Sheboygan Police. They have been charged with First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Car Jacking, and Attempted Car Jacking all while being armed with a dangerous weapon.
– A combine caught fire Wednesday evening on a Door County roadway. According to a Facebook post by the Door County Sheriff’s Office, the piece of farm equipment caught fire at around 5:00 PM on Martin Road, between Dunn and Windermere Drives. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, but the process of removing the combine from the roadway took several hours. The road was closed to traffic during the duration of the incident but has since been reopened.
