There is a new face in charge of the finances in the City of Manitowoc.
Shawn Alfred was named as the replacement of Steve Corbeille on Monday, during the City Council Meeting.
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels said yesterday during his Manitowoc City Update on WCUB and WOMT Radio, that Alfred has plenty of experience in finance. “Shawn worked for Manitowoc County for a short time, and most recently with the Manitowoc Public School District.”
Mayor Nickels also explained, “Parts of Shawn’s responsibilities as a Finance Director are to oversee treasury and payroll, and finance, but something you may not know is that the Finance Director also oversees the City Clerks Office.”
Mayor Nickels also praised Corbeille for all the work he has done for the City. “Steve Corbeille has been with us for the last 8 years, and honestly without him, we would not be where we are today.” Under Corbeille’s watch, the City’s debt dropped from around $76 million to about $50 and the Unassigned Fund grew from roughly $16,000 to over $5.6 million.
Mayor Nickels went on to say, “Steve, with his knowledge and experience and expertise in local government financing really was an asset to our community.”
Corbeille will work with Alfred through the end of the year, and the reigns will be passed on January 1st when Corbeille officially retires.
