A pair of State Representatives from the Lakeshore area brought a little Christmas cheer to the Capitol.
Representatives Paul Tittl and Shae Sortwell set up a Christmas Tree in the rotunda in defiance of a statement from Governor Tony Evers who announced about a month ago that there would not be one.
Tittl told SeehaferNews.com that he and Sortwell thought, “What a tragedy. We decided that we would put up a Christmas Tree. Within 24-hours of putting up the Christmas Tree, the Department of Administration, run by the Governor, called our offices and asked to talk to us. They told us we could not have that tree put up there. We have defied him, and said we are not taking it down.”
Tittl went on to say that the State needs a little cheer during these unprecedented times.
“This year has been a very tragic year with the COVID virus,” Tittl said. “And we thought that we should probably have some semblance of order within the Capitol. Having a Christmas Tree there does not hurt anything. We don’t have lights on it…no employees were put to work to put this thing up, so we thought it would be a great thing for all employees of the Capitol, including the Governor’s staff, to see a Christmas Tree once they walk into the Capitol.”
Anyone who is interested in sending letters or decorations for the tree can send them via mail to Representative Paul Tittl Room 219 North State Capitol PO Box 8953 Madison, WI 53708.
