The lone woman on the Manitowoc City Council will not seek a full two-year term in the spring.
Alderperson Courtney Hansen representing District Ten filed a notification of non-candidacy yesterday for the April sixth election. Hansen told SeehaferNews.com that she is “Sad to be leaving this position. My husband and I are house-hunting and are hopeful to purchase our first house together this spring or early summer.”
Hansen was appointed April 21st to fill the remainder of a two-year term serving residents on the northwest side of the city. She serves as Vice-Chair of the Personnel and Public Infrastructure Committees as well as an Alternate on the city’s Board of Review.
Hansen said she will miss, “Interacting with all the people in the District. Just being able to work and help them and celebrate the good times as well.”
In her short time on the Council Hansen has left an impression on women in the community. “Many women have approached me to say thank you for serving on the Council,” Hansen explained. “I’m hoping that of the five districts up for office in April to see more women throw their hat into the ring.”
Her term expires on April sixth. Persons interested in running for District Ten must file nomination papers no later than January fifth.
