Three people died over the Thanksgiving weekend in two separate crashes in Manitowoc County.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig says that 21-year-old Patrick E. Knapp and a 14-year-old boy, both from De Pere died Wednesday afternoon as the result of a two-vehicle crash in the Town of Schleswig.
Deputies and EMS personnel responded at about 2:20 p.m. to the intersection of County Highways X and A. A preliminary investigation indicates that a 16-year-old male from De Pere was operating a car traveling westbound on X when he failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by a freighter tractor-trailer operated by 63-year-old Hiawatha Jones from Milwaukee. Knapp and the boy-passengers in the car died at the scene.
The driver of the car sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries while Jones was not injured. The identities of the two juvenile boys are not being released.
Meanwhile-a 22-year-old Sheboygan man died as the result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident early Thanksgiving morning in the Town of Centerville.
Deputies and EMS personnel responded about 12:25 a.m.to the crash on County Highway X. A preliminary investigation indicates that Jordon J. Leslie was headed eastbound on X when he crossed the centerline entering a ditch colliding with several trees before coming to a stop against a “large tree” Leslie died at the scene and speed appears to be a contributing factor.
