Now more than ever, charities are relying on the generosity of donors to meet the increased need for their services across our state. Today on Giving Tuesday, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) and the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) are offering tips to help you ensure that your donations will reach the organization of your choice.
If you receive a phone call, email, or text from someone asking for a donation, do some additional research before blindly donating.
Never click on links in emails or social media messages, as many scammers use this technique to send you to phony websites.
Speaking of phony websites, keep your eyes peeled for such sites, which may contain spelling or grammar errors as an indicator.
And if called, be sure to ask for the name, address, and phone number of the organization to ensure their legitimacy.
