A new business has taken over where the former Jim’s Shoe Repair had done business since 1987.
We spoke with the owner of Hold Your Horses, Danielle Vanderpool, who said they sell Breyer horse figurines, and other hand painted horses. She and her wife Kallie have put a lot of work into the building and said that people would not recognize the interior.
She explained that Jim had “left all his equipment, so we had to first take that out, and from there we stripped the walls, because he had shelving units on the walls. So, we stripped that off the wall and painted it. Then put in new flooring, new ceiling tiles in front, and a new sign out front.”
Danielle also told us the story of how she met the original owner of Jim’s Shoe Repair by chance. While cleaning out the building she said she had, “Put out a table for free out on the curb. A man and woman stopped by in their truck and I said ‘Come on in.’ They said ok and it was Jim. The first Jim.”
Jim was able to help Danielle name the equipment and helped her sell it all.
Danielle said that her passion for horse models began as a child. “When I was little, I always loved model horses,” Danielle told SeehaferNews.com. “Growing up to adulthood, I went away from toys, but I found a Breyer at a thrift store, so I painted it. Then another and another, and now I’m right here.” The business at 602 Chicago Street, Manitowoc, opened up on November 1st, and Danielle says a lot of her sales have come from the many Facebook groups she is a part of. She has used those groups to try and spread the word of her new business in Manitowoc.
