There are still a few deer hunters that have not filled their bag limit, so there will likely be many hunters in the woods again this weekend attempting to snag the proverbial 30-pointer.
The DNR is reminding those who are going out this weekend to remember to keep yourself safe.
Basic gun safety tips should always be followed, namely keeping your finger outside the trigger well until you are ready to fire, treating every firearm as if it were loaded, and never point the muzzle at something you aren’t willing to shoot.
Also, as is stressed in hunter safety courses, be sure to know your target and what is beyond.
Don’t be afraid of correcting your fellow hunters if you see them doing something they shouldn’t.
According to a DNR report, four hunters have been injured by gunshots this year, and one died in Door County after he accidentally shot himself while exiting his ground blind.
