Dedication and determination. Those are two words that would best describe a group of Black Friday shoppers who camped outside of GameStop in Manitowoc.
The man who was there the longest is Dustin King, who told SeehaferNews.com that he had been there since Tuesday. The reason for his urban camping trip is to buy a Play Station 5, which has made the news for selling out pretty much everywhere.
“PS 5s are selling for triple the price online,” King explained. “They only do online launches except here at GameStop today and today only.”
King explained that there are only two left in the store, so he was willing to sacrifice his week to ensure he got one. King even celebrated Thanksgiving in his tent.
“It’s been a long journey cooking bacon and eggs every morning,” he said. “I brought heaters, bacon, eggs, a PlayStation 4, and a generator. We have been playing video games the whole time.”
There were several others joining King this morning, but none had been out as long as Dustin, and his son Keegan. The two played games such as Minecraft and Assassins Creed Valhalla to pass the time and had a nice bonding experience.
One man donning camo and waders said he was going fishing as soon as he was done buying himself a new gaming system.
We asked King if it was worth the wait. “Absolutely! I’m stoked,” he said. “It’s been a blast. We successfully camped it out. It got a little cold at the end there, but I can’t wait to get out of here, go home, relax, and download and play.”
Dustin said it was important for him to camp out for so long because they were not likely to get their hands on the console for quite some time otherwise. “It’s gonna be a year before we see this system because of the demand and COVID,” Dustin explained. “We want that top-notch console with 4K definition, top games are going to be on it.”
There were only two PlayStation 5 systems available at the Manitowoc Store, along with only three Xbox series X systems. Throughout the morning, workers were coming outside to let people know that unless they were at the front of the line they were not going to receive one.
One person in line said that a line of about 25 people left at one point when they heard the news.
