A local medical official says there are some tips to remember for deer hunting during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
With the 9-day gun deer season to begin in Wisconsin Saturday morning, SeehaferNews.com spoke with Holy Family Memorial’s Chief Nursing Officer Tom Veeser about ways to avoid cross-contamination. He suggested to “check to see if everyone is well and if anyone has been exposed” and “check your temperature periodically and stay home if you’re feeling ill.”
Veeser has other suggestions that may seem rather odd for hunters, including staying six feet apart whenever you can, and “wear a mask where appropriate and use hand sanitizer frequently.”
As for those tree-stands, Veeser cautions, “You should be in a good solid healthy tree and always use a harness when you’re in a tree stand. Well over 90% of the fatalities associated with deer hunting season are from tree stands, not from guns or other issues.”
Other suggestions from the HFM spokesman do include bring and cook your own food, serve individual meals and use disposable dinnerware, and, let a family member or friend know where you’ll be hunting and when you expect to return.
Veeser also suggested to keep a cellphone with you and consider investing in a portable battery charger.
