An area college has been named the recipient of three-quarters of a million dollars in grants.
These monetary gifts to Lakeshore Technical College are to be used to support training for students and community members involved in carrying out emergency response activities.
They received the $750,000 grants through their membership in the Midwest Consortium for Hazardous Waste Worker Training.
A five-year award of $740,000 will be distributed through annual $148,000 payments to LTC, while the remaining $10,000 grant will fund the development and delivery of training related to COVID-19.
The Midwest Consortium for Hazardous Waste Worker Training has been receiving funding through the National Institutes of Health since 1992. Others in the 13-member consortium include the University of Illinois, the University of Cincinnati, and Emergency Response Solutions International.
