
MONDAY
-Eight organizations in Sheboygan County received a portion of the $15 million COVID-19 Cultural Organization Grants provided by the state. The John Michael Kohler Arts Center received the largest amount, totaling about $137,000, while the Weill Center Foundation received just over $120,000.
-The Wisconsin DNR is reminding hunters to double-check their deer stands and ensure that they are structurally sound before climbing into them. They also encourage hunters to utilize a harness to make sure you do not fall out of the stand.
-Manitowoc County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer spoke with SeehaferNews.com about the recently passed Executive Budget, saying “I’m really grateful and proud of the budget process.” He went on to say “We’re holding the line on taxes, and we have an aggressive highway program…We have the problem of the pandemic, but other than that we are sailing along.”
– Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center and the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association will host an educational Cranberry Day feature at Farm Wisconsin on November 14th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Farm Wisconsin guests can learn about cranberry agriculture in-depth and take part in cranberry related activities. Guests will learn about the unique bouncing-property of cranberries, how cranberries float in water, why cranberry juice is red, and more.
TUESDAY
– The Manitowoc Committee of the Whole has voted to send a case of Alderperson Aaron Bailey’s residency question to the Wisconsin Attorney General’s office for further review and possible recommendations. The Wisconsin Attorney General’s office could take no action on this matter effectively referring it back to the Manitowoc Committee of the Whole. This case started when a resident of Manitowoc file a complaint questioning the legal residency of Alderperson Bailey.
– The Sheboygan Police Department is currently investigating a shots fired incident which coincided with the theft of a vehicle. After a short chase, one of the two vehicles that were stolen was stopped, and the two teenage males in the vehicle were arrested. The investigation is ongoing, but if you have any information on the case you are encouraged to contact the SPD.
– Hospitals remain taxed with COVID 19 patients in Northeastern Wisconsin according to Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack. “We have 181 hospitalized,” Waack told SeehaferNEws.com. “45 of those are in the ICU, and we have 25 ICU beds available, meaning we are currently using about 82% of our hospital capacity here in Northeast Wisconsin.”
– On this day in 1975, the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald, an American Great Lakes freighter, sank while en route to a steel mill near Detroit Michigan. She departed from Superior Wisconsin on Lake Superior the previous day, at around 2:15 PM, and sank sometime around 7:10 PM due to high winds, and rough waters.
WEDNESDAY
– A 46-year-old teacher at Appleton West High School has been arrested after he allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a student in the Middle School. Brian Dimmer Dimmer is now facing charges of Exposing Genitals to a Child, Causing a Child Over 13 to View or Listen to Sexual Activity, and Soliciting an Intimate Representation of a Minor.
– One election is now over; however, another one has just begun. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has mailed ballots for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committee elections to eligible farmers and ranchers across the country. To be counted, ballots must be returned to the local FSA county office or postmarked by December 7. Visit fsa.usda.gov/elections for more information.
– Throughout the month of November, several area businesses will be raising money internally to donate to the Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Manitowoc County and the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA for their Staff Challenge as a part of the United as One Campaign. Every dollar donated to the program will be matched by the five participating financial institutions, with a goal of $40,000 to support area children.

THURSDAY
-Two Deputies in the Brown County Sheriff’s Office rescued a man from a burning vehicle on Wednesday. SGT Chris Tappen and Deputy Cooper Walker were able to pull the man from the SUV, and he suffered only minor injuries. He was arrested for his first OWI offense.
-Assemblyman Paul Tittl of Manitowoc reacted to the Executive Order issued by Governor Tony Evers this week. Tittl called it “an Executive Suggestion”, and said it had “no meat…no teeth to it.” Tittl also criticized the Governor for his unwillingness to work with Republicans on a solution to the COVID-19 issue.
– Officials have released the identity of the Manitowoc teen who stole a car and fired a weapon at another earlier this week. 17-year-old Dequan Curtis Rushing is facing three felonies after he stole one vehicle in Manitowoc, shot at a vehicle in Sheboygan, and stole a second vehicle.
-Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels and Alderman Scott McMeans voiced their opinions on the Finance Committee’s decision to remove a section of the 2021 budget to repair a section of Washington Street. The two city officials are on opposite sides of the argument, and both made solid points. You can read all about it by clicking here.
FRIDAY
– The COVID-19 virus has infiltrated Sheboygan’s City Hall. In a letter to the media, Mayor Mike Vandersteen confirms that he has tested positive for the virus. The letter says that he was tested on Tuesday and was last in City Hall on Monday, November 2nd. Mayor Vandersteen said that he has informed everyone he has been in contact with, asking them to also get tested.
– Brown County Parks Department reports that some park areas in the County Park System will be closed at sunrise on Saturday, November 21st through sunset on Sunday, November 29th to allow for the Wisconsin 9-day Deer Gun Season. – The Lighthouse Recovery Community Center in Manitowoc is continuing their yearly tradition of hosting their Dose of Hope event, but as many have had to do before them, they added a virtual twist. The event will take place tomorrow, with more information available on the organization’s Facebook page.
– The 2nd Annual Holiday Faire Extraordinaire kicked off Friday evening at the Expo Grounds in Manitowoc. Admission is free for the event and will continue from 8:00 am to 4:00 PM on Saturday. Monetary donations will be accepted for Lights of Christmas, as will food donations for Peter’s Pantry
