Officials have released the identity of the Manitowoc teen who stole a car and fired a weapon at another earlier this week.
17-year-old Dequan Curtis Rushing is facing three felonies after he stole one vehicle in Manitowoc on Monday with another 16-year-old who was not identified and two others who have not yet been arrested. The female driver was in the vehicle at the time, so the teens pointed a gun at her and demanded the vehicle.
Then they drove to Sheboygan, where they attempted to steal a second vehicle. The driver was still in the car at the time and sped off, so they fired a handgun at him, striking the car but missing the driver.
The group was able to steal a second vehicle but was spotted on I-43 by officials. Rushing and the 16-year-old were caught using spike strips, but the other vehicle was able to escape.
When asked why they stole the vehicles, Rushing told police that they wanted to go to Milwaukee to buy new cellphones.
Rushing has a status conference scheduled for November 16th and a Preliminary Hearing on November 18th.
