Two Deputies in the Brown County Sheriff’s Office got a bit more than they were expecting Wednesday morning when they responded to a drunk driving crash.
A call came in at around 1:30 AM reporting the crash in a Bellevue neighborhood. When the deputies arrived, they saw the vehicle was engulfed in flames, and the driver was still inside.
SGT Chris Tappen jumped into action, and ran toward the burning SUV, and began pulling the man out. Deputy Cooper Walker was not far behind and the duo was able to drag the 32-year-old to safety.
They double-checked the vehicle to ensure no one else was inside but found it empty.
No major injuries were reported; however, the driver did suffer minor burns and cuts.
He was arrested on his first OWI charge.
