Police misconduct lawsuits have been costly for Milwaukee taxpayers.
When protesters took to the streets in May over the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, some of their anger dated back more than 60 years, tied to incidents in Wisconsin’s largest city.
Milwaukee has paid out more than $40 million over the last decade to settle lawsuits over officer misconduct.
Those would be cases of wrongful arrest, strip searches, excessive force and wrongful death.
There are still more cases working their way through the legal system.
