A 22-year-old Mount Horeb man has been found not competent to stand trial for allegedly killing a Navy veteran who was out jogging along a Dane County road last January.
Nicholas Day had suffered a gunshot wound and several lacerations.
Riley L. Berg will undergo treatment until he is found to be competent.
That ruling was made at a Monday hearing.
Day’s body was found by a passerby and at the time, Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney called the attack “extremely brutal and very calculated.”
Berg is charged with first-degree intentional homicide.
